Together we learn to
Be the Best we can be, guided by God’s love.
We live out the Christian values of
Forgiveness, Friendship, Hope, and Trust,
encouraging everyone to achieve their God-given potential,
develop their talents, celebrate their uniqueness,
and rejoice in the joy of belonging to God’s family.

Developing Artists of the future

Art will engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Children will also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity, diversity and wealth of our nation.

Art and Design is a valued part of our broad and balanced curriculum, providing children with opportunities to develop skills, creativity, and self-expression. Through experimenting with a wide range of materials and techniques, pupils are encouraged to explore ideas, express opinions, and develop artistic vocabulary.

Our progressive curriculum, from EYFS to Year 6, is supported by a clear progression of skills and knowledge. Teachers use PlanBee schemes alongside our school progression document, adapting lessons to reflect children’s interests and cross-curricular links.

Children study a range of artists, styles, and movements, including sculpture, pop art, impressionism, pointillism, optical illusions, and fashion. Each unit allows pupils to explore techniques, evaluate artwork, and apply learning to a final outcome. Sketchbooks are used to experiment, revisit ideas, and support reflection.

Assessment is ongoing, informing support and challenge, with summative assessment used to track progress against National Curriculum expectations. The subject is monitored by the subject leader through work scrutiny, pupil discussions, and review of learning to ensure high standards and impact. We also enhance learning through clubs, workshops, and enrichment opportunities.

In EYFS, art is taught through play, exploration, and creative expression, supporting children to develop fine motor skills, imagination, and confidence. Children are encouraged to explore a wide range of materials, tools, and techniques, such as painting, drawing, collage, and modelling. Adults model skills and language, value children’s ideas, and celebrate creativity, allowing children to experiment freely and express their own thoughts and feelings. Art in EYFS supports children’s development across the curriculum, particularly within Expressive Arts and Design, while fostering enjoyment and curiosity.
