Developing Geographers for the future

We will inspire curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

Children will know about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes and the formation and use of landscapes and environments.

Our geography curriculum is underpinned by the 4 key geographical concepts:

  • Locational knowledge
  • Place knowledge
  • Geography skills and fieldwork
  • Human and physical geography

In ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in geography, we implement a curriculum that is progressive throughout the whole school. Geography is taught as part of a unit, focusing on knowledge and skills stated in the National Curriculum. We recognise the importance for children to gain ‘real-life’ experiences through hands-on, practical activities. We ensure this through fieldwork and educational visits and cross-curricular opportunities through subjects such as Art and DT.

We also provide regular opportunities for disciplinary learning to teach our children how to think like geographers, to question, debate and share our knowledge on local, national and international geography as they progress through school.
