Developing Computing skills for the future

Computing education enables pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Computing enables pupils to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

  • Computing is a key component of the curriculum offered at CVSF. It is taught weekly to ensure that children become masters not consumers.
  • The children at CVSF are given the opportunity to explore information technology, computer science and digital literacy.
  • Within our Early Years Foundation Stage children are given opportunities to engage with technology. Children begin to use software like Purple Mash. The introduction of computing focuses on completing tasks appropriately and safely. This begins in Class 1 as children explore and sequence with algorithms and devices to complete practical tasks.

Online Safety

  • Internet safety is an essential element of our computing curriculum. The aims of which are to tackle the new challenges that an ever growing online world is providing. We will guide children carefully through the world of online learning and leisure to ensure that all children are safer internet citizens.  This is taught within each half term and is reinforced through the PSHE curriculum.
  • Across the federation, computers are used to enhance the experience of learners.
  • This may be seen through the use of Kahoot! quizzes, use of search engines and online resources.

Computing Clubs

  • Extra-curricular computing clubs enhance the core curriculum.
  • These clubs focus on the key skills of coding, using a multitude of software including, code.org, Purple Mash, scratch and Minecraft.
  • We aim to provide the children with a range of software to equip them with the skills and knowledge for lifelong learning.
